After seven weeks on the road, Middle Feast took home the gold (and their food truck + $50,000!) in a well-deserved win in front of food truck fans watching from all over the world. City by city, challenge after challenge (and lesson after lesson), Tommy, his sister Hilla Marudi and friend Arkadi Kluger kept pushing forward and eventually winning the contest, but also our hearts.

Today, Tommy shares with us his excitement for the truck moving forward after the win (they don’t even have their truck ready yet!), as well as what it was like as a chef on a food truck for the first time ever, and some awesome behind the scenes info about the show.

My favorite part is when Tommy talks about his inspiration – what truly helped him get through all the tough times while on the road – his daughter, who was waiting at home for him. Having a daughter myself, I could definitely relate, and again it’s just one of the many reasons why we all loved that Middle Feast came out on top this season.

Bacon Bacon was his solution. He’s watched business blow up (on one occasion, literally!) to include three food trucks, a café, and a mobile trailer.

I asked Jim what he’d do differently if he could go back in time and build Bacon Bacon all over again, and his answers pack some great advice. After seven weeks on the road, Middle Feast took home the gold (and their food truck + $50,000!) in a well-deserved win in front of food truck fans watching from all over the world. City by city, challenge after challenge (and lesson after lesson), Tommy, his sister Hilla Marudi and friend Arkadi Kluger kept pushing forward and eventually winning the contest, but also our hearts.

Today, Tommy shares with us his excitement for the truck moving forward after the win (they don’t even have their truck ready yet!), as well as what it was like as a chef on a food truck for the first time ever, and some awesome behind the scenes info about the show.

My favorite part is when Tommy talks about his inspiration – what truly helped him get through all the tough times while on the road – his daughter, who was waiting at home for him. Having a daughter myself, I could definitely relate, and again it’s just one of the many reasons why we all loved that Middle Feast came out on top this season.

After seven weeks on the road, Middle Feast took home the gold (and their food truck + $50,000!) in a well-deserved win in front of food truck fans watching from all over the world. City by city, challenge after challenge (and lesson after lesson), Tommy, his sister Hilla Marudi and friend Arkadi Kluger kept pushing forward and eventually winning the contest, but also our hearts.

Today, Tommy shares with us his excitement for the truck moving forward after the win (they don’t even have their truck ready yet!), as well as what it was like as a chef on a food truck for the first time ever, and some awesome behind the scenes info about the show.

My favorite part is when Tommy talks about his inspiration – what truly helped him get through all the tough times while on the road – his daughter, who was waiting at home for him. Having a daughter myself, I could definitely relate, and again it’s just one of the many reasons why we all loved that Middle Feast came out on top this season.

Welcome to a special episode of FoodTruckr school! Today, we’re happy to welcome Tommy Marudi to the show, one of the three chefs on the champion food truck from this past season of The Great Food Truck Race.

After seven weeks on the road, Middle Feast took home the gold (and their food truck + $50,000!) in a well-deserved win in front of food truck fans watching from all over the world. City by city, challenge after challenge (and lesson after lesson), Tommy, his sister Hilla Marudi and friend Arkadi Kluger kept pushing forward and eventually winning the contest, but also our hearts.

Today, Tommy shares with us his excitement for the truck moving forward after the win (they don’t even have their truck ready yet!), as well as what it was like as a chef on a food truck for the first time ever, and some awesome behind the scenes info about the show.

My favorite part is when Tommy talks about his inspiration – what truly helped him get through all the tough times while on the road – his daughter, who was waiting at home for him. Having a daughter myself, I could definitely relate, and again it’s just one of the many reasons why we all loved that Middle Feast came out on top this season.

On July 1st, 2014, a horrific and tragic event happened in Feltonville, Philadelphia when a food truck exploded, injuring 13 people, including 2 critical injuries.

Sadly, the two people who were in critical condition died on July 24th. From all of us here at FoodTruckr.com, our prayers, thoughts and condolences to all who were involved in the explosion, and especially the families of Olga and Jaylin Galdamez.

Because of the recent events, we thought it would be appropriate to have an expert come on to the show to educate us on propane tank safety, since it appears the explosion was caused by a propane tank.

Stuart Flatow and his colleague J.J. McCoy from the Propane Education & Research Council (PERC) join us today to talk about what happened and how we – all of us – can prevent this kind of thing from happening.

You’ll learn about what to look out for with your propane tanks, and other important safety checks that we should all be doing from time to time.

You can never be too safe, and it only takes a minute or two to prevent disaster.

In this third episode of FoodTruckr School, I don’t have a guest on the show with us this time around, however I pose a very important question to all food truck owners out there:

Why aren’t you asking your customers for their email addresses?

The only logical answer here is that you just don’t know how important it is, which is why I’m here to tell you.

Yes, I know you have a Twitter account and a Facebook account, and those things are important (and I share a couple of extremely useful tips for getting the most out of your time on those social media platforms too), but your customer’s email address is the most important asset for most businesses, and it’s no exception for those in the food truck business either.

Why?

Because think about it – when you email someone, you’re contacting them directly. The only thing your message is competing with is other messages in one’s inbox, and we all know how we often can’t leave any emails unanswered. For some of us, it’s the first thing we check when we wake up in the morning – or we have notifications on our mobile devices that let us know the moment a new email comes out way.

With social media, you’re competing with tons of noise and  when you update a status or share a tweet, you’re only sending your message to a fraction of your overall following – and I talk about why that’s the case during this episode too.
